Children with Special Needs and disabilities
Children with special needs are marginalized and not considered as “humans” in most of Ghana. Children with special needs are sometimes killed at birth since they are seen as a curse. There are no medical interventions or national programs that support their education, and growth. Most of these children are “dumped at orphanage homes they rarely receive visitors. Volunteers are therefore urgently needed to help give the children some life skills education. Volunteers help them with basic everyday life skills like dressing up, brushing their teeth, etc. SFLIG Volunteers again help to develop their intelligence quotient (IQ) and their creativity by teaching them using craft. These fun games and activities help them to play and interact with one another. Our Children and Special Needs program takes place at health facilities, orphanage homes, and individual homes. There is a lack of playing materials at most of our Children and special needs centers. Volunteers are encouraged to bring papers, clothes, and visual and disability learning aids. Most importantly you bring a big heart and smile.
