Medical internship
SFLIG Volunteers Medical Placement and Internship program welcomes volunteers with a wide range of experience.  This includes qualified medical personnel, medical students, and pre-med students. Being a medical volunteer in itself is a helpful preparation for a medical career. Our Medical Placement and Internship volunteer program qualifies for school electives for medical students.   SFLIG Volunteers welcome motivated volunteers to join our medical placement and internship in the health sector. This placement takes place in the cities, rural communities, and remote villages in Ghana. Our medical placement and internship volunteers also go on medical outreaches to give educational talks and medical counseling. Medical volunteers are encouraged to undertake duties according to their interests and areas of expertise. Volunteers shadow health professionals from the Out Patient Unit to the In-Patient Unit. Medical volunteers first start by assisting and learning by observing the work at clinics and hospitals. Medical volunteers are encouraged to bring scrubs, theatre shoes, gloves, nose masks, hand sanitizers, and rubbing alcohol. These are for personal use at their placement since the facility can run out of these items The work is varied and may be very different from methods and practices at home. Volunteers learn about tropical diseases, and improvise medical tools and local methods of diagnosing and treatment. Volunteers are allowed to go on rotation which helps them to work in different units. SFLIG Volunteers assign a medical volunteer to a particular deprived school or orphanage. It will be appreciated if volunteers can come with first aid supplies. These are not compulsory to bring.
