Mental Health Volunteer Program in Ghana

Our mental health and psychiatric support program in Ghana places volunteers in psychiatric units, clinics, and community outreach settings where there is a growing need for mental health support.

Ghana faces challenges such as:

  • Limited psychiatric facilities
  • Shortage of mental health professionals
  • Increasing cases of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse

Your support helps improve awareness, care, and community understanding of mental health.

 

As a mental health volunteer in Ghana, you will:

  • Shadow and support doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals
  • Assist in patient interaction and support (under supervision)
  • Participate in community education and awareness programs
  • Support outreach on substance abuse and addiction prevention
  • Help reduce stigma through family and community education
  • Areas of Exposure

 

Volunteers may observe or assist (under supervision) in:

  • Mental state assessments
  • Psychotherapy sessions
  • Group and individual counselling
  • Addiction management and rehabilitation
  • Anger management support
  • General psychiatric care

 

Daily Activities

  • Morning: Placement in psychiatric unit or clinic
  • Afternoon: Community outreach or support sessions
  • Evening: Free time or cultural experience

What to Expect

Mental health work requires patience, compassion, and emotional awareness.

All activities are supervised and based on your level of training.

Volunteers are not expected to perform professional clinical tasks independently.
