What to Expect

At SFLIG Volunteers, we put the desires and well-being of our volunteers first, and we are committed to ensuring they have all the necessary requirements for feeling content and safe.

A visa letter and associated documents will be provided prior to your departure. We will arrange an airport pickup when you arrive and drop you off when you leave. A safety briefing and orientation will be provided when you arrive, and accommodation, food (mainly breakfast and dinner, and occasionally lunch) will be provided. You will have 24/7 access to a local support team and program supervision. A local SIM card for 24/7 internet access will be provided. After completion, you will be given a certificate and a recommendation letter. Lastly, we will donate to the placement on your behalf and to the girl’s support/sanitary towels fund.


Airport Pickup at Kotoka International Airport

A representative from our organization will be waiting for you at the airport arrival hall, holding a sign with the names of volunteers or the identification method previously discussed prior to boarding the flight.


Accommodation

Volunteers will be hosted by a family supplied by SFLIG Volunteers, which is a secure and secure environment for them to get accustomed to, and learn about, the Ghanaian and local cultures. Groups of volunteers will be kept apart according to gender, and couples will be able to stay together. For those working on the same or similar projects, or at the same project site, and who are in groups of four or more, accommodation in hostels and dormitories will be arranged, with each volunteer having their own bed.


Food & Beverages

Host families are expected to provide breakfast, dinner, and sometimes lunch for the volunteers when they are home in the afternoon. The meals will typically be local, with a few continental dishes, along with a selection of fruits and vegetables. The water they receive will be made sure to be clean and hygienic, and bought from certified producers of bottled or bagged water. Those with dietary needs and allergies will be given special food that can be found locally. Volunteers should remember that any extra food, snacks, in-country trips, transport, excursions, and hotel stays will come out of their own pocket.
